...the elevators are on the left and here's the key to the roof. Try to miss my car!
Rejoining the masses of unemployed has left a bad taste in my mouth. Frankly, I don't like not working. Too much damn time on my hands. So, I decided to take the world by the balls and borrow some old skills from a few jobs ago. I'm cold-calling again! Blech...
So here's how it goes. I open up the yellow pages, find types of cpmpanies that I'd like to work for, write them all down and start cold-calling them one by one, asking for the name of the creative director, getting him or her on the phone, and hit them with my schpiel. I ask for the opportunity to give them my CV by hand, or at worst by fax and follow up a week later to see if they've had a chance to look it over. If they have something available...great. I can bring in my portfolio. If they don't...I bug them for references. Someone they know who could use my services.
It's a long and tedious process, but it seems to be panning out somewhat...or at least, it feels more like process than just sitting on my ass and eating chips, while perusing the want-ads with a highlighter in my hands.
Beats career suicide and burning bridges!
That`s all she wrote for now. I`ve got to get back to the phones...many people to bug and precious little time to do so. :(
